Instructor Qualifications

Janet holds a Master of Science Degree in Education and Counseling from San Diego State University. Her Bachelor of Science Degree is in Psychology with a minor in Business. She was licensed with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), and the Department of Corporations. She began her career in financial education and investment planning thirty three years ago as a financial planner for a national financial services corporation. Prior to embarking on a career as a professional financial and retirement consultant, she was a Counselor and Advisor at the University of San Francisco.

Ms. Fox was also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), a member of the International Association of Financial Planners, The International Board of Standards and Practices for CFPs, and the International Society of Retirement Planners. She is a Transitioning and Retirement Planning Specialist with comprehensive knowledge of Federal Employee Benefits Programs.

Janet is registered and certified with the State of California Council for Post-Secondary and Vocational Education (CCPVE) to teach Adult Education Courses.

 

Teaching Experience

Janet Fox has presented PLANNING FOR YOUR RETIREMENT training for thousands of federal employees, including USFS in Albuquerque, Klamath Falls, Clovis, Bishop, Tahoe Basin, Nevada City, Ramona, Porterville, Region 5 Vallejo, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and San Bernardino. Contracting directly, or through OPM, she has worked with many government agencies including EPA, OPM, IRS, SSA, BLM, FBI, and DOE. She is a Program Coordinator and Course Instructor for Pre-Retirement Planning, Thrift Savings Plan Program Management, and Mid-Career Retirement Planning Classes throughout the United States.

Janet’s expertise in Federal Employee Benefits (CSRS, FERS, FEGLI, FEHB, and TSP) as well as her extensive background and training in Social Security Benefits, Tax Issues, Transition Training, and Retirement Planning will be invaluable in providing professional course instruction for your USFS civil service employees.

Ms. Fox has a working knowledge of factors affecting annuity computations,

Special Retirement Supplements, Alternative Forms of Annuities, Annuity Tax Computations, Creditable Civilian Service, Early Out Options, CSRS Offset Rules, COLAs, and Survivor Benefits. She is skilled in the process and procedure of Transition Training. Her training in counseling and her knowledge in Financial Planning contribute to her exceptional qualifications for teaching Aspire to Retire!

 

Social Security Benefits Expertise

Ms. Fox is well trained in presenting Social Security Benefits to employees as well. She is experienced in easily explaining basic principles including OASDI, AIME, PIA, COLAs, Disability, Medicare, and coordination with Federal Employee Health Benefits.

She is adept in obtaining and reviewing Summary Statements of Earnings. She is also proficient in calculating retirement benefits and special provisions such as the Windfall Elimination, Government Pension offset, and Catch 62.

 

Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Expertise

Janet is an experienced classroom instructor, teaching Thrift Savings plan basics to Federal Employees. She is knowledgeable of the features, benefits, structure, restrictions, tax implications, and investment choices. Janet has been trained by a member of the Thrift Savings Plan Board and is knowledgeable of the options, rules, regulations, and provisions affecting Federal Employees preparing to retire. She can help employees evaluate their choice between the traditional TSP and the new ROTH feature.
